Brookes and Abraham join Milwaukee BMW in World Superbikes for 2016
After lifting the British Superbike Trophy for the second time SMR (Sean Muir Racing) announced recently that they would not rest on their laurels and that they would be taking on a new challenge in the World Superbike Championship.
It was a big surprise that SMR did not get the support of the works Yamaha outfit, who instead chose Paul Denning and Crescent. All eyes were on the North of England this week as the rumor mill went into overdrive speculating how Sean Muir’s challenge to WSBK title would take shape.
But the sundayworld.com can now reveal that the reigning British Superbike Champion Josh Brookes and former MotoGP star Karel Abraham will take to the World Superbike grid next season as team-mates in the new, Milwaukee BMW team.
Both Brookes and Abraham will ride BMW S 1000 RRs built by Shaun Muir Racing and backed my Milwaukee Power Tools after a three-year extension to their title partnership deal was agreed.
BMW Motorrad Motorsport will provide support and technical know-how, and its experts will work alongside the team throughout the whole season, along with engines and electronics. The team will be responsible for the development of the bike during the season, and manage the sporting and logistical aspects of its participation in the series.
Milwaukee BMW may well be a new face on the WSBK grid next season but with two experienced riders and Factory support from BMW Motorrad Motorsport, Milwaukee BMW will not be a team wet behind the ears.
