Car manufacturer Renault has recalled thousands of vehicles because of a problem with the braking system.

Owners of more than 27,000 Renault Capturs in the UK and Ireland have been urged to get their cars checked after the company discovered some wheel arch liners had been incorrectly positioned - causing them to rub against the brake hose.

The urgent safety recall notice which was issued to owners said the fault could affect the braking efficiency of the vehicle.

A spokesman for the company said: "It's not a 'stop driving your car immediately' issue. Drivers would be alerted to the problem by a warning light on the dashboard.

"If a fault occurred, then they would get quite a blatant message saying 'braking system fault'."
