Basil from Wicklow is officially our Top Dog

Two weeks ago we launched a search for Ireland's Top Dog and you guys delivered in spades.

After hundreds and hundreds of entries and thousands and thousands of votes, here are the three dogs that came top of the online vote.

The winner was Basil, a husky/retriever mix owned by Anne Noelle Lacey from Co Wicklow. Basil, and Anne, win our €200 first prize and here is how Anne described him in her entry.

Basil is a loveable 3 year old huskey/retriever mix. Basil loves to play and go for long walks in the forest, were he spends most of his time jumping in and out of rivers. When relaxing at home Basil loves to watch telly and will bark at any animal that may appear on the screen. It's very funny :) we love him so much and couldn't imagine our house without him now.

Second was a sixth-month old Staffy puppy called Oscar, owned by Nicki Killeen from Milltown in Dublin.

Here's how Nicki described her beloved pet:

Oscar is a Staffy puppy who will turn six months old this April. Oscar is a native of Letterkenny Donegal but was adopted by a Dublin family who fell in love with him. Oscar is a happy little puppy who loves nothing more than a cuddle or sun bathing in his favourite chair which he is pictured on. When not playing with his favourite rubber chicken or watching the T.V. show 'For The Love Of Dogs' Oscar loves getting out and about to meet new people and other canine friends. He showers humans and dogs with equal affection and sloppy kisses. Oscar has been on one charity dog walk and attended the office of one of his owners for a meet and great, he is becoming quite a local celebrity and is loving the attention.

Everyone that Oscar meets is surprised by his affectionate and loving nature because his breed is portrayed so badly. Oscar is a great representatives for Staffies and as he gets older will attend more doggie related activities to show how loveable his breed can be.

Of course he is still a boisterous puppy and can be seen running away with shoes and slippers or hoarding rocks from the garden. If Oscar won he would like to use the money to buy some peanut butter treats and some new slippers for his owners.

The €100 for second place should get those treats and slippers.

Third, and the winner of €50, was Nadine Hanna's pug called Snoop. They live in Blanchardstown and here is how Nadine described her dog.

Snoop is the most caring and funny little dog you will ever meet. Full of affection kisses are his favourite. His favourite pass time is eating ice pops and wrestling with his daddy. Everywhere he goes he melts hearts. Regularly attends pug club where he gets to play with friends. He's quite the hit on Instagram. He just loves spreading the pug love.

Thanks to everyone who entered and voted.
