BARDS ARE STILL HAVIN' A BALL

Thirty years on road and still going strong

THE BARDS: You can catch them on tourIT'S hard to believe that 30 years have passed since Diarmuid O'Leary and The Bards had their first big hit single with Julia, Steppin' It Out At Lanigan's Ball.

The comedy song became one of the best-selling records in Ireland, and The Bards followed it up with hits like The Oldest Swinger In Town.

They also enjoyed success with their humorous track, Now You're Suckin Diesel, which became a popular catchphrase.

Along the way,The Bards worked with some of Ireland's finest musicians, composers and producers including Donal Lunny and Bill Whelan, the man who went on to enjoy massive success with Riverdance.

The Bards went on to tour the world, playing places like Iceland, Hong Kong and Singapore. Now rolling back the years on The 30 Year Tour, playing around the country, Diarmuid and The Bards are as popular as ever.

They have also released a new album to mark this milestone in their career, which includes Shaney Boy, The Old Dungarvan Oak, Breaking The Line and the title track, The Railway Hotel.

There are two sides to the music of Diarmuid O'Leary and The Bards and both are reflected in their recordings and live shows.

Their current tour includes dates at the Cork Opera House on Sunday, March 28 and the Red Cow Inn, Dublin, on Easter Sunday,April 4.
